LA Comedy Live presents The Expat Comedy Show — the first-ever LIVE comedy show this year to bring 6 expat comedians into one stage. The show will happen on Sunday, 24 October 2021, 3pm & 8pm at the Esplanade Concert Hall.
With the fusion of new material and greatest hits from 6 of our best imported laughs — featuring Deepak Chandran (Indian); Orion Perez (Filipino); Liam McDonald (Canadian); Artur Akhmetzyanov (Russian); Matt Chalmers (British); and Sarah Peng (Chinese). Expect a hilarious, good laugh-out-loud fun as the comedians cover topics on living in HDB or tetris-like houses, fines, fines and more fines, relationship with Singaporeans and of course our Nation’s favourite - The Food Culture.
This show is suitable for both local and expat audiences that are keen to take on the point of view of an expat living in our Sunny Island, Singapore.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Deepak Chandran
Deepak Chandran's rise in the world of stand-up comedy has been nothing short of spectacular; he's now a regular headliner across both South and Southeast Asia, as well as an established host at Comedy Masala Singapore. Deepak’s comedy is mostly observational, with a twist of politics, issues with middle class life and of course, his life as an IT engineer. Deepak has also appeared on LA Comedy Live’s three successful sold-out shows ‘Let’s Joget & Goreng Together’ with headliner Kumar early this year, 05-06 March 2021.
Orion Perez
Dubbed as the ‘Master of Accents’, Orion Perez can skillfully present as Malaysian, Chinese, Singaporean, and other nationalities. "I specialize in joking about languages, accents, and ethnic or racial stereotypes," he explains. "My aim is to show that people tend to subconsciously judge others based on the accent they use." An award-winning comedian, he debuted his solo show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, United Kingdom in 2014. He was also the winner of the 2014 Magners Singapore International Festival New Act Competition, as well as LA Comedy Live’s “On Stage With Steve-O” Comedian Contest.
Artur Akhmetzyanov
Artur Akhmetzyanov is the winner of the 2018 Bangkok International Comedy Competition and Singapore’s only Russian comedian. He’s performed live in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and the Philippines. Artur has opened for international comedians like Neal Brennan, Brendon Burns, Ahmed Ahmed, Alistair Barrie, Dwayne Perkins & Jinx Yeo. He’s been a part of Magners International Comedy Festival, Singapore Comedy Fringe and StoryFest: International Storytelling Festival Singapore. Artur has also recently appeared on ‘LA Comedy Live Presents Jinx Yeo’ last 04 July 2021.
Liam McDonald
Canadian funnyman & Singapore's most unique act with the perfect mix of stand-up & improv, Liam has performed live in Canada, USA and Singapore. Armed with his sharp wits and a very likeable persona on stage, he has been a crowd favorite in Singapore. Liam started his stage career in his native land of Toronto, Canada as a Music Theatre major and spent 2 years touring throughout the US & Canada fronting for a rock band. He also spent 10 years with an Improv troupe honing his experience in audience interaction.
Matt Chalmers
Hailing from Scotland, Matt has been doing comedy since 2017. He has headlined for Comedy Masala and The Merry Lion in SG, opened for Stephen K Amos and Ardal O'Hanlon, and has performed in the UK, Bahrain, Singapore and Bangkok. Matt’s rise in the local comedy scene is remarkable. An astute comedian and a fantastic writer, Matt’s comedy will leave you in stitches!
Sarah Peng
Born and bred in China, Sarah Peng is one of very few active standup comedians in China. Sarah has performed in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Wuhan and Singapore. In 2017, Sarah shared her experience as a Chinese female standup comedian in her TEDx talk “why I do standup comedy in English?” On stage, Sarah wants to develop her own unique voice. She believes standup comedy can be a tool for cross-culture communication and laughing can connect people and the world.
